HELP US SERVE THE COMMUNITY
For individuals seeking a volunteer opportunity, Yoakum Community Hospital offers a variety of programs.
Club Med
Club Med is a club for students entering 11th or 12th grade. This volunteer opportunity is designed to acquaint the students with numerous career opportunities in healthcare. Each member must be a student of Yoakum High School or St. Paul High School.
Yoakum Community Hospital hosts a meeting once a month to promote interest in various healthcare fields. A healthcare professional is present at every meeting to provide club members with information about their field of work, available college information, and/or possible scholarship information. The meetings are held in the Garlan Weber Board Room on the third Tuesday of each month during the school year from 6:30 P.M. to 9:00 p.m. In addition, club members have the ability to shadow various healthcare providers in their field of interest. Healthcare provider shadowing is done at Yoakum Community Hospital. These volunteer hours are accepted by some Allied Health Programs. Throughout the year, there are additional opportunities for obtaining volunteer hours.
Over the years, many of the past Club Med members have gone on to become healthcare providers. These healthcare providers have returned to Yoakum Community Hospital and/or our surrounding communities to assist in caring for the population. The healthcare field is in need of new providers each year. It is the goal of Club Med to encourage our youth to become members of the healthcare society.
Each Club Med sponsor leads with the motto, “Today, we will help you… Tomorrow, you will help others…”

Auxiliary
The volunteers at Yoakum Community Hospital, customarily referred to as the “Pink Ladies”, provide support to our patients, visitors and staff in and throughout the hospital. The Yoakum Community Hospital Auxiliary volunteer their time to run the gift shop, deliver mail and newspapers to patients and welcome patients and visitors with a friendly smile. Volunteer opportunities for auxiliary members include making tray favors for our patients, as well as donating gifts to our holiday newborns. The Pink Ladies’ fundraising efforts have allowed YCH to purchase equipment for the hospital and provide nursing scholarships to YCH LVNs who wish to obtain their RN license. Their fundraising activities include: operating the hospital gift shop, hosting spring/fall fundraisers, as well as bake sales.
Membership is open to all with an interest in community health, patient care and hospital service. For more information, call Auxiliary President, Suzanne Sestak, at (361) 293-2321 ext. 126.
