We know you have a choice for your medical care and we thank you for trusting us with your needs. We are committed to ensuring that you get the best, most appropriate healthcare while you are being treated here. We’ve provided information to help make your hospital stay as comfortable as possible, including what to bring with you, what to leave at home, visiting hours and other important information.
What to Bring
To help us provide the best care possible, please follow the following guidelines:
- A list of medications you are taking and the dosages.
- Medical information or records (including X-rays) from your personal physician, if possible.
- Your medical insurance cards (including Medicare and Medicaid) and photo ID.
- Your own nightgown or pajamas, robe, slippers, toiletries and reading glasses.
- Please do not bring large sums of money, jewelry or other valuables to the hospital.
- You need only a small amount of cash for items such as vending machines.
Before You Leave
Make sure you have the following information before you leave the hospital:
- What, if any, dietary restrictions you need to follow and for how long.
- What kinds of activities you can and can’t do.
- How to properly care for any injury or incisions.
- You may have follow-up tests and need to schedule them.
- What medicines you must take, why, and for how long.
- When you need to see your physician.
- Home-care instructions for your caregiver, such as techniques for getting in and out of bed, how to use and monitor any equipment, and what signs and symptoms to watch out for.
- Telephone numbers to call if you or your caregiver has any questions pertaining to your after-hospital care.
After Your Stay
Your doctor will decide when you are ready to leave the hospital. At this time, be sure to:
- Arrange for a family member or friend to help in your departure from the hospital.
- Carefully listen to instructions about post-hospital care provided by your doctor or nurse.
- Make sure to ask questions about your diet, activities, or other matters before departing.
- Before you leave, check closets and drawers for personal items.
- Schedule needed follow-up tests and appointments.
