Yoakum Community Hospital has obtained Hospital Accreditation from the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ)

Jan 9, 2026 | YCH News

(Yoakum, TX, Jan. 7, 2026) – Yoakum Community Hospital has been surveyed by the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ) and has successfully met the requirements for Hospital Accreditation by demonstrating compliance with CIHQ Standards and the Conditions of Participation by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. This recognition reflects the hospital’s continuous commitment to safety and quality patient care.

YCH was subjected to a rigorous unannounced onsite assessment November 18th through 20th. The CIHQ team toured the hospital, reviewed medical records, observed care practices, and interviewed staff and patients.

“CIHQ’ goal is to partner with hospitals to improve the care provided in our communities,” states Richard Curtis, Chief Executive Officer of CIHQ. “CIHQ is proud to recognize Yoakum Community Hospital for achieving accreditation.”

“Achieving accreditation through CIHQ is a significant milestone for Yoakum Community Hospital, and I am incredibly proud of our team,” states Tiffany Hintze, Chief Executive Officer of YCH. “What made this process different was CIHQ’s collaborative, education-focused approach. The survey was not just about compliance—it was about strengthening our systems, validating our culture of safety, and helping us continuously improve how we care for our patients and serve our community.”

According to the Texas Hospital Association (THA), there are 91 Critical Access Hospitals in the state. Out of those ninety-one, only sixteen have achieved accreditation through CIHQ. This successful survey resulted from months of preparation and daily commitment by the hospital.

“This achievement reflects our consistent effort in updating policies, conducting internal audits and mock surveys, and strengthening documentation and care processes,” states Susan Kutzer, Quality Management Director at YCH. “ We also focused heavily on reviewing emergency preparedness, life safety, infection prevention, and patient safety standards while collaborating across departments to share best practices.”

CEO, Tiffany Hintze continues, “This success is the byproduct of our team’s hard work, open communication, and shared commitment to our patients and community.”
